Public Safety Alert: Pet Scam Warning

Iredell County Animal Services (ICAS) has been made aware of individuals attempting to scam pet owners through local lost-and-found pet pages on social media.

Scammers may contact you claiming they have found your lost pet and then ask you to send money for things such as medical care, transportation, boarding, or the pet’s return. Please be cautious. ICAS will NEVER request payment over the phone, through social media, or through a third-party website to hold or care for a lost pet at our facility.

If someone contacts you claiming to represent Iredell County Animal Services and demands payment, do not send money or provide personal or financial information. Instead, contact ICAS directly at 704-878-5424 to verify the information and get assistance with locating your pet.

Please remember:

  • Be cautious of anyone who asks for money before allowing you to see or retrieve your pet.
  • Do not provide credit card, banking, or other sensitive personal information.
  • Verify claims directly with Iredell County Animal Services.
  • Report suspicious activity to the administrators of the social media page where the contact occurred.

If you are currently searching for a lost pet, please share this warning with others. Help us protect our community — and the pets we all love.
